How To Prepare For A Professional Photoshoot

5/20/2015Unknown

If you are ANYTHING like me, you make lists. I make lists for literally everything in my life. What I need to do today, tomorrow, next month. What I should bring to the beach, to the park, to an overnight stay at a relatives house. Checklists ensure that I am well prepared for whatever may be thrown my way.
I utilized knowledge from previous photoshoots (learn from your mistakes, right?) and also took advice from other photographers to compile this list for your next photo session, in hopes that it may ease any anxiety you may be having about the shoot.

THE PLANNING STAGES
  • What is the sesssion for? Decide on a theme.
  • Practice!! This is important with children. Put them in front of a mirror and make a game out of trying happy faces, silly faces and serious faces.
  • Select your outfit- things to think about: feel of photos, location, type of shoot
  • Select your location (make sure it goes a long with the theme) scout locations with/without photographer if desired
  • Start teeth whitening treatments/Tanning
  • Begin acne treatments
  • Lets make you a pinterest board!!(Check out Boards I have already created!) for inspiration and posing ideas (however, its not the end all- be all, the sky is the limit)
  • Request time off work if needed
  • Place deposit for shoot with photographer, if required (for me, it is not necessary)

Great photographs are not accidents, they are perfectly planned(TWEET THIS♥)

3 DAYS BEFORE-

  •  Wax/shave legs to give irritation time to calm (same for beards/facial hair)
  • Color/trim hair (but do not try anything "new" with your look in case you hate it)
  • Email photographer any questions you may have

2 DAYS BEFORE-

  • Call photogrpaher to confirm time/location
  • Ask any last minute questions
  • Get your nails/toes/eyebrows done (less is more, natural nail polish is most flattering)
  • Drink plenty of water and avoid salty foods or alcohol so you are not puffy on day of shoot.

24 HOURS BEFORE-

  • GET PLENTY OF SLEEP
  • Get a sugar scrub (HERE) to help moisturize skin
  • Iron clothing and hang up- do not wear in the car on the way to the shoot to avoid wrinkles
  • Make sure photographers contact info is stored in your phone in case you need to get in contact
  • Check directions, program GPS if needed
  • Make sure cell phone is charged and a bag is pre-packed if you are briging children who may need many items packed
  • Check the weather forecast (reschedule or change locations if needed, communicate this with photographer)

Certain situations require special care be taken due to the genre of the photograph being taken, effecting what the final product will look like, and what will (hopefully) cause as little headache as possible while ending with a rockin' final shot.
The more you know ahead of time (tailored to what KIND of shoot you are doing) can help you tremendously!
